As someone who is otherwise perfect, my New Years resolution is simply to be more stupid.
Some of you may say, but Marty, you're stupid enough already. To that I would reply no, I could always be more stupid. Just because you've achieved some level of stupidity, it doesn't mean you should just stop right there. You should try to be the stupidest person in the world. I know that's a tall order. There are so many stupid people out there. How can I compete?
Others may say, Marty you're a really bright guy (I'm not sure who would ever say this, just indulge me for a bit) why would you want to be stupid?
I guess the answer is being stupid is more rewarding than being smart. I've experienced this first hand. If you continue to be promoted even though you're stupid, it shows there is no need to try to become brighter. I have never received a promotion in my job at the accounting office. I think the prob here is that I'm not stupid enough to make my boss look brighter. So, my theory is the stupider you are the higher you rise. I've just not approached this properly.
This was driven home to me when Merrill Lynch lost $8 billion on the subprime mortgages (so far) and the guy in charge, O'Neal, resigned and got $160 million. It seems to me that he was rewarded for being stupid. Lose $8 billion, receive $160 million, that 2%. So, if he loses $80 billion, he receives $1.6 billion? I think the guy from Citigroup, Prince, might have had a similar deal.
Personally, I think I have what it takes to lose $8 billion.
This year, I'm going to really step up to the plate and show the world that I have what it takes to be the stupidest man on earth! I know the rewards will be substantial.
